They open wide, these eyes each morning and suddenly the quantum of light hits the lens and focuses onto the retina and we receive the gift of sight. Again and again each morning a miracle takes place and we see. How incredible it is! Approximately 150 million cells on the retina await the reception of light and upon receiving it, they begin to convert incoming light into electrical signals which travel to the brain and produce what we call sight. All before we put our feet on the floor each morning. We cry out and shake our fits and beg the creator and we never see the miracles, but do we have the eyes to see? If I have learned one thing this year, it has been to see. He is the teacher and I, the child, awaking each morning to glorious sight. Wonder is the gateway to worship and I want the eyes to see the wonder of my King. In this place far from Eden, sight can be stolen and hearts broken but I will fight for the treasure and call on Him.

Because He will always be. For me. With me. In me.

He is so I can be. Brave. Endless. Kind. Truthful. Radiant.

Matthew wrote that “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” My heart skips a beat and I can read this verse anew. If I choose to see God for who He is, then my entire body… my entire world.. will be full. Overflowing. Abundant. And this all starts with the eye. Invitation accepted, I begin to hunt and I am desperate for the beauty and desperate for the beauty creator and His delight is in me. A sweet friend once told me that our primary purpose in this life is to be with God. Before any destiny, before any job, before anything else, He created us just to be with Him. I have taken those words and remembered and held tightly to them. Striving makes waste. Be still, He says, and know. Know that you are mine and I am yours.

When we have the eyes to see, we realize that all is a gift. Every ray of light, every flower, the bird singing outside of the window, the child holding your hand, the meal prepared. The breeze on your face, the song in your head. Nothing is by accident. All is gift, all is love, all is blessing.

I am a seeker of God. I am a hunter of divine beauty. It surrounds me and I remember to focus the eyes and see Him in each moment and count the ways that he loves me so lavishly. Please, dear friend, count the ways that He loves you. Join me in this journey of renewing the eyes. The eyes that see the glory all around are the eyes that will transform a life. Be transformed.

Love,

Ellyn
